Today the last free public library in Camden closed at 8pm. We went to visit just to be there before it happened. It’s a nice old building, columned and high ceilinged. We met the librarians there who just got laid off. I think it was 19 in all that lost their jobs, between a few different branches. One library is reopening as a county library, and city librarians can apply to work there but mostly for part time spots. The article is interesting how it describes how libraries are important in poorer cities, how the poor use libraries differently than we do.
