Camden was incorporated as a city in 1828, and 100 years later the citizens of 1928 were very proud of their city. When it started Camden had 1143 people, in 1928 it had 140,000. The link below has a long list of articles reviewing different aspects of the city’s history.
A good quote from the link:
“A city may be judged by its citizens.
Judged from the standpoint of acts of commission, Camden points to its accomplishments in business, civic and home life to justify our claim to a high standard of intelligence and progressiveness.
We are able to point to a low average of law violations and an almost complete absence of serious criminal acts.”
That was from 1928. How times have changed
