How it Could Happen to You

How it could happen to you

Since we always think homelessness won’t happen to us, here’s just a few ways how it happened to some people I’ve met. Who also thought it wouldn’t happen to them. We generally see the potential of homelessness kinda like a car accident- we know it could happen someday, but don’t really think it’ll happen to us. Things will never get that bad for me. Well, here’s what caused it to get that bad for others:

  • Lose your job (this is by far the most common reason I come across)
  • Someone you were living with dies (spouse, parent) and you are unable to sustain the dwelling by yourself
  • Lose your welfare benefits
  • Released from jail
  • Released from hospital
  • Have an argument with spouse/parents/housemates/etc and your forced to leave
  • Chronic Illness
  • Mentall Illness prevents you from stably housing yourself
  • Injury
  • Your family and friends are tired of you sleeping on their couches
  • Eviction
  • Foreclosure
  • Domestic Violence
  • Drug or alcohol abuse
  • etc
